Starship was asked by Peerick Wines to create a new label range for their an early release red wine, one that was described as a 'juicy temptation for the senses'.
Roadmap
We were inspired by the client's Celtic family background, and looked into designs from ancient Celtic artwork: in particular, the Book of Kells. An illuminated Latin manuscript, the Book of Kells is believed to have been created in 800 A.D., and is considered a masterwork of Western calligraphy and illumination.
Taking the 'temptation' theme and the 'Deadly' name of the product into account, we designed the label based on the Biblical tale of Adam and Eve: in particular, the temptation of the serpent and the apple in the Garden of Eden.
The Work
Hand drawn, inked, and converted to vector, the design was then adapted to allow for a 'foil'-like appearance via being printed onto silver stock. This gave the final artwork the visual look of an illuminated manuscript.
Deadly can be purchased from Peerick Wines or from selected shops in Victoria. Cheers!
